The local fayre is rice and curry. Sri Lankan curries are usually hot and spicy. Most restaurants tone down the spice for tourists palates. Rice and curry is served for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The best curries are definiately at the local restaurants, where they are also really cheap.
Seafood is in abundance. Caught daily from the ocean, fish is so fresh and scruptious. The prawns in Sri Lanka are second to none; the jumbo variety are truely impressive in size and flavour. If you are a seafood lover you will be in your element in Sri Lanka.
The local tipple is arrack, a whiskey like spirit distilled from coconuts. Get ready for your arrack attack!
